Kano Governor Flags off planting of over 3 million Trees

The Kano state Government has flagged off over three million Tree planting to mitigate global warming.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf while performing the Tree planting campaign in Kano said, the campaign was intended to plant Trees in houses, streets, markets, places of worships, places of Worship works, farmlands and forest reserves.

He explained that, planting trees in the environment is necessary now more than ever, particularly with the
apparent dangers of global warming arising from climate change.

“our administration is committed towards planting 10 million trees within our 1stterm in office.”

He said the plan will be achieved through engagement with local governments, traditional institutions and other stakeholders.

“The “2024 Tree Planting Campaign” is meant to checkmate the menace of indiscriminate felling of trees, climate change, soil erosion, land degradation as well as enhance productivity of agricultural land and decrease the rate of desertification.”

The Kano state Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change Nasiru Sule Garu expressed the commitment of the government to plant five million Trees across the state to improve environment.

He said the Tree planting campaign when fully nurtured will help prevent diversification, Climate Change and prevent erosion as well as improve Carbon dioxide.

Garu noted that, the Ministry has planted two million seedlings last year in an effort to improve the environment.

“It is important to mentioned that, for the purpose of this Tree Planting, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State has graciously approved the provision of 3,000,000 seedling against the last year which is 2,000,000 for roadside, institutional, Avenues and community planting through the Agro–Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape Project (ACReSAL) which is a project under the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change”.

“This is all in an effort to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change action in our society.”

He stressed the need to involve students from both primary and secondary schools and in nurturing the plantation to maturity.

The Emir of Kano Khalifa Mohammadu Sanusi stressed the imperative of Tree planting in the fight against global warming.

He drew the attention of the people on the obligation of Tree planting as ordained in the Holy Quran.

He called on the district heads to engage in the tree planting campaign for the benefits of the society.

Emir Sanusi said, “Tree planting is important to preserve the environment and also use for medical purposes.
