HONOUR FOR BEST ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP ACHIEVEMENTS
CITATION
OF
ENGR SULE ABDULAZIZ
MD TCN ABUJA
Sustainability concept is: “Aspiring to sustainable management in order to help realize a sustainable society in the environment, economic and social spheres.”
Thus, in the spirit to inspire sustainable management, ENVIRONMENT REPORTERS ASSOCIATION OFNIGERIA (ERAN) has decided to honour you today eir, with the Best Environmental Leadership Award in Nigeria 2023 in view of your commitment to Environmental Sustainability in Nigeria.
Some of us might be ignorant of environmental impact of electricity generation and transmission.
Electric power systems consist of generation plants of different energy sources, transmission networks, and distribution lines. Each of these components can have environmental impacts at multiple stages of their development and use including in their construction, during the generation of electricity, and in their decommissioning and disposal.
These impacts can be split into operational impacts (fuel sourcing, global atmospheric and localized pollution) and construction impacts (manufacturing, installation, decommissioning, and disposal). All forms of electricity generation and transmission have some form of environmental impact by energy source and include impacts such as water usage, emissions, local pollution, and wildlife displacement.
Greenhouse gas emissions are one of the environmental impacts of electricity generation. Measurement of life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions involves calculating the global warming potential of energy sources through life-cycle assessment.
These are usually sources of only electrical energy but sometimes sources of heat are evaluated. The findings are presented in units of global warming potential per unit of electrical energy generated by that source.
The scale uses the global warming potential unit, the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), and the unit of electrical energy, the kilowatt hour (kWh). The goal of such assessments is to cover the full life of the source, from material and fuel mining through construction to operation and waste management.
In 2014, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change harmonized the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) findings of the major electricity generating sources in use worldwide. This was done by analyzing the findings of hundreds of individual scientific papers assessing each energy source.
Coal is by far the worst emitter, followed by natural gas, with solar, wind and nuclear all low-carbon. Hydropower, biomass, geothermal and ocean power may generally be low-carbon, but poor design or other factors could result in higher emissions from individual power stations.
When it comes to environmental impact assessment, our findings show that Engr Sule Abdulaziz has done well to ameliorates the impact electricity generation would have had on our environment.
We must say that Engr Sule Abdulaziz has taken the path that most of us often hestitate to take for want of time or caring. We hope others will be inspired by his extraordinary deeds.
We believe that you are a role model, and leaders like you are people this country needs in public and private positions of leadership, given the way you have conducted the affairs of your office, as well as your performance even before you got to the exalted post you presently occupy.
This explains why we are bestowing this award as the Best Environmental Best Leadership Award on you today. The award is designed as a major media event in the reawakening of Nigerians to issues of Environmental sanitation for sustainability.
According to Bob Marley, “The goodness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.”
Therefore, people like you remind us that we can make our lives sublime (inspiring) and departing, leaving behind us, footprints on the sands of time.
Sir, we believe that you fall within this category of great men, who with your integrity and ability, you have affected those around you positively.
It’s sufficed to say that TCN under your leadership has established a virile environmental protection program with the aims to reduce the environmental burden on the people.
That brings us to the concept of educational psychology, known as reinforcement by virtue, of which every teacher is supposed to respond positively or negatively to a pupil’s performance in class. This could be moral or academic. If the pupil does well, the teacher is expected to praise or reward him accordingly. If on the other hand, he performs badly, he is supposed to be negatively reinforced through a rebuke or outright punishment.
This concept is not exclusive to pedagogy; both at home and at work, people are daily being reinforced according to how they perform in their callings.
Therefore, Engr Sule Abdulaziz deserves to be rewarded accordingly, considering your epic performance in environmental sustainability Nigeria.
These are some of the achievements ERAN considered to bestow on YOU as the Best Environmental Leadership Award winner 2023.
